DOMAINE CHEVILLON-CHEZEAU
Young Philippe Chezeaux is related to Jérôme Chezeaux and his father-in-law is the cousin of Robert Chevillon. The family has some great parcels including nearly a hectare of 35-50 year old vines in Les St Georges, a parcel in Les Porets, plus 3 other Premiers Crus. I like his wines: they are fine, elegant, and full of fruit. He bottles without filtering and his prices are fair. he does very little pre-fermentation maceration, does not ferment at a high temperature, and does not extend the cuvaison to extract color and tannin. In fact, like most all Burgundies I like, tannin is not in the picture. Instead, fruit/acidity/terroir balance are what one finds.
There are approachable Nuits-St-Georges, from the Bourgogne right below the RN 74 on the south edge of Nuits, the classic, Nuits-Villages Les Julien, and all his premiers crus, which are quite distinctive in style, showing the true terroir of each.
Philippe is a good-natured man, friendly, agreeable, slightly stocky fellow, who makes wines that seem to mirror his personality. I have the feeling that he enjoys life and his wines are certainly a pleasure to enjoy. - Peter Weygandt
