DOMAINE DE LA CHAPELLE
At the base of the Roche de Solutre (where pre-historic men drove Mastodons over the edge and ate the remains of the slaughter beneath) rests the tiny hamlet of Solutre. Here Pascal Rollet works a very small parcel of 80 year old vines on the edge of Solutre called Clos de la Chapelle. In addition to this little gem, Pascal has other parcels around Solutre and Pouilly, some of old vines, and it is this cuvee of old vines Pouilly-Fuisse that we seek out for value and typicity. Finally, Rollet has a very well situated parcel of Macon vines (with the rather lengthy name of Macon Solutre Pouilly). All of these vines are hand-harvested (a rarity these days in Pouilly-Fuisse) and are made with great care in one of the smallest cellars I’ve ever visited. - Peter Weygandt
