The wine is made from old vines Garnacha from the area around Lécera, about 200 km NW of the Priorat. The vines used for the wine Monte la Sarda start at the age of 50 years and go up in age. The yield is between 15 to 24 hl/ha. Bodegas Leceranas with the collaboration of the prestigious wine maker Joan Mila started this interesting project on 2005.

Monte la Sarda is fermented at a medium temperature of 24 degrees Celsius, macerated with the skins around 12 days with regular over pumping. It has no oak treatment at all and is after fermentation kept in large deposits of 40.000 litres to retain freshness and fruitiness. After its malolactic fermentation it has been cold stabilized and clarified but filtered quite gently.

Soil and climate: The grapes are cultivated at an altitude of 500 to 600 meters. With a regular season with about 95% sun days and 350-400 mm of rainfall. Low humidity and cooling inland winds makes it ideal for the Garnacha vine to grow in this poor chalky clay soils.

About Bajo Aragon and VT Bajo Aragon: This appellation for Vino el la Tierra is located between the provinces o Zaragoza, Teruel and Castellon. The creation of the region of the Low Aragon has delimited the territory based on the existence of territorial, historical, economic, social and cultural bonds, marked by the course of the Guadeloupe river in its average course. The river that next to its tributaries, Guadalopillo, Bergantes, Mezquín has modelled surroundings of doubtless ecological value. From the orchards and fields given life by them comes fruit, olive trees, almonds tree and grapevine that fall under the appellation. Like the oil and the peaches of Calanda, the wine of the Bajo Aragon is of great refinement and fruit driven aromas. Wine has always been cultivated in this region. There for, we could create the wine Monte la Sarda with the fruit from experienced growers from old healthy vines that lives in symbiosis with nature. The philosophy and style is as the rest of the cultivated fruits; ripe, sweet and spicy. Wine is part of the culture and present with every meal.
