VIAL-MAGNERES
A family property of Olivier & Bernard Sapéras for three generations, the estate consists of 10 hectares of vines spread out in small parcels across the best plots of the appellation, the terraced vineyards are cultivated entirely by hand. All of the vines are grown along the coastline and the soils are made up of metamorphosed Cambrian rocks composed essentially of decaying chloric and sericitic schist.
The breakdown of the vines is as follows: Grenache Noir 65%, Grenache Gris 15%, Grenache Blanc 11%, Syrah 3% and old Carignan 6%. The vines are 40 to 50 years old on average; they amount to 60,000 plants, of wich between 1,000 and 1,200 are renewed annualy. Banyuls, yields of 20 to 25 Hectolitresl /Hectare produce 150 to 200 Hl/year. Collioure, yields of 30 to 35 Hl/Ha produce 40 to 50 Hl/yr.
All of the cuvées undergo temperature-controlled fermentation and the white wines are fermented after immediate pressing without skin maceration. The destemmed grapes for their Collioure wines undergo a 10 to 15-day maceration. All of the red Banyuls Wines are muted on the grapes. The traditional Banyuls wines are subjected to a long, oxidized maturation while the Collioure, White Banyuls, Vintage cuvées, and Vin de Pays are botled relatively young after some reduction.
