  • Domaine Gauby Cotes du Roussillon Villages 'La Roque' 2012
    $80.00
Red wine. Roussillon, France. Biodynamic. "The la Roque cuvée from the Gauby family is produced entirely from eighty year-old grenache vines, with the wine hailing from the same vineyards from which the Muntada bottling is selected. The 2012 la Roque comes in at an even thirteen percent octane and is nicely pale in color (as grenache ought to be), offering up a bright and complex bouquet of raspberries, cherries, a touch of fruitcake, beautiful spice tones (more cloves and cinnamon, rather than garrigue), Provençal soil tones, spiced meats and a gentle topnote of lavender. On the palate the wine is pure, full and impressively transparent, with a good core, a fine impression of stony minerality, ripe, moderately chewy tannins and a long, tangy and still quite primary finish. This is still a young and slightly angular wine that needs more bottle age, but it has lovely sweet red fruit at the core and impressive soil signature and will be excellent when its blossoms." — 92+ Points, John Gilman, View from the Cellar #69 (May/June 2017)

  • Domaine Gauby Coume Gineste Rouge 2012
    $85.00

Red wine. Roussillon, France. Biodynamic. A stunning blend of almost all Grenache (from 90-100-year-old vines) that comes from a single, higher elevation parcel planted on schist soils and aged all in demi-muid. Plum, ground herbs, sage, rosemary, tar and licorice are just some of the nuances here, and this full-bodied, decadent and layered effort has tons of hedonistic appeal, yet stays remarkably elegant and seamless, with ultra-fine tannin and serious length.

  • Clos Marie Pic Saint Loup 2016
    $36.00

Red wine. Pic Saint Loup, Languedoc, France. Biodynamic. 45% Grenache, 45% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre. In 2016 a hailstorm decimated the vines at Clos Marie. The loss of fruit was such that only one estate wine was produced, rather than the usual 5 cuvées. The estate also produced a red and white bottling with fruit they got from friends. Look for dark fruit flavors of cherry, plum, blackberry, cassis, with notes of pepper, baking spice, leather. The wine is broad-shouldered but well-balanced with grippy tannins that will benefit from a good decanting. This is certainly a wine that will benefit from another year or two of bottle aging. As with many reds from this area lamb is the first thing that springs to mind with this wine, particularly braised lamb shank.
