Collection: Marc Plouzeau

Marc Plouzeau is one of Chinon's most prolific—and talented—winemakers. Thanks to the will of two generations, his family restored Chinon's Château de la Bonnelière to its once-noble status, as well as its original vocation: vineyards and wine.

In 1976, Pierre Plouzeau bought the family property, renovated the castle and replanted the vineyards. In 1989, a modern winery was born, along with a wine: "Chinon Château de la Bonnelière."

Pierre's son, Marc, took over the domain in 1999, continuing to develop, going fully organic, and perfecting the cellar. We're privileged to carry several Plouzeau cuvées from top-notch parcels, all offering outstanding quality and value.

  • Marc Plouzeau Perles Fines Sparkling Brut Rosé NV
    $20.00
Sparkling wine. Chinon, Loire Valley, France. Organic. 100% Cabernet Franc. "Marc Plouzeau’s 'Perles Fines' Rosé Pétillant is a lovely wine, showing more elegance on the nose and palate than the 'Perle Sauvage' version. The bouquet shows lovely cabernet franc character in its mix of white cherries, a touch of tangerine, currant leaf, lovely soil tones and a bit of smokiness in the upper register. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, crisp and very nicely balanced, with frothy mousse, a good core and nice length and grip on the vibrant finish. A tasty bottle of sparkling cabernet franc, with plenty of elegance." — 88 Points, John Gilman, View from the Cellar #59 (Sept./Oct. 2015)

  • Marc Plouzeau Chateau de la Bonneliere 1929 Lieu Dits Vindoux 2016
    $33.00
Red wine. Chinon, Loire Valley, France. Organic. 100% Cabernet Franc. "The Chinon “Vindoux l’Intégrale” from Château de la Bonnelière hails from the small lieu à dit of Vindoux, whose soils are clay and sand and whose vines were planted in 1929! Monsieur Plouzeau ferments this wine in open top casks and ages it for twenty-four months in demi- muids prior to bottling. The 2016 Vindoux offers up a deep and youthfully complex bouquet of cassis, dark berries, tree bark, dark chocolate, a bit of game, beautiful soil tones, just a touch of new oak and topnotes of both balsam bough and menthol. On the palate the wine is very deep, full-bodied and perfectly balanced, with a great core of creamy, old vine black fruit, ripe, buried tannins, tangy acids and great focus and grip on the long, complex and absolutely stunning finish. This is a young wine and is a bit reductive when first opened, so if you are tempted to drink it in its youth, decant it thirty minutes first. But, it really deserves to be allowed to blossom fully in the cellar. 2026-2060+." — 94+ Points, John Gilman, View From The Cellar #87 (May/June 2020)

  • Marc Plouzeau Rive Gauche Chinon Rosé 2019
    $15.00
Rosé wine. Chinon, Loire Valley, France. 100% Cabernet Franc. Organic. "The 2019 Chinon Rosé from Domaine de la Bonnelière is a nicely vibrant salmon color and offers up a bright and gently vinous bouquet of cherries, orange peel, gentle smokiness, dried flowers and a nice base of soil tones that I suspect are from sandier soils. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and quite complex, with excellent depth at the core, bright acids and lovely balance and grip on the long and eminently satisfying finish. This is first class Chinon Rosé! 2020-2025." — 91 Points, John Gilman, View From The Cellar #87 (May/June 2020)

    $25.00
White wine. Chinon, Loire Valley, France. Organic. 100% Chenin Blanc. A deep and intense bouquet of ripe fruits. Full-bodied, complex and elegant on the palate, with lovely creaminess and mineral tension, this is a well structured, pure and persistent Chenin Blanc with remarkable balance and elegance.
