Collection: Marc Plouzeau

Marc Plouzeau is one of Chinon's most prolific—and talented—winemakers. Thanks to the will of two generations, his family restored Chinon's Château de la Bonnelière to its once-noble status, as well as its original vocation: vineyards and wine.

In 1976, Pierre Plouzeau bought the family property, renovated the castle and replanted the vineyards. In 1989, a modern winery was born, along with a wine: "Chinon Château de la Bonnelière."

Pierre's son, Marc, took over the domain in 1999, continuing to develop, going fully organic, and perfecting the cellar. We're privileged to carry several Plouzeau cuvées from top-notch parcels, all offering outstanding quality and value.

  • Marc Plouzeau Domaine De La Croix Chinon Rouge Les Clos De Roches St Paul 2015
Red wine. Chinon, Loire Valley, France. 100% Cabernet Franc. Organic. "The 2015 Les Clos de Roches St Paul has a beautiful Cabernet Franc nose of sweet red currants and black cherries intermixed with a touch of tobacco, peppery herbs, and forest floor. It shows more floral and rose petal notes with time in the glass and is medium-bodied, fresh, and elegant on the palate. It’s not for those looking for over-the-top richness, but it’s seamless and poised on the palate and has ultra-fine tannins. It’s a beautiful wine to enjoy over the coming 5-7 years." — 93 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2019)

  • Marc Plouzeau Rive Gauche Chinon Rosé 2018

Rosé wine. Chinon, Loire Valley, France. 100% Cabernet Franc. Organic. Cherry pit, red currant, pungent flowers and a suggestion of succulent herbs on the nose. Sappy and focused in the mouth, offering bitter cherry and orange flavors and a zesty hint of white pepper that adds back-end spiciness. Closes supple and long, featuring lingering florality and a sweet raspberry flourish. This wine has the heft to work with full-flavored food, but there's also a raciness that makes it extremely easy to drink by itself.
