The Bold, Modern 2014 & 2015 Burgundies Of Christian Sérafin

Christian Sérafin produces a lot of excellent, acclaimed Burgundy wine from world-famous terroirs: Gevrey-Chambertin, Charmes-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey St.-Denis, and more.

His 2014 and 2015 line-ups comprise 18 wines in total, including 10 1er Crus and 2 Grand Crus.

What better way to kick off Weygandt Wines Anniversary Week (the store opened 9 years ago this week!) with a hand-picked selection of 4 Sérafin wines at a special "surprise" tasting—and make the entirety of both vintages available at deep discounts!

The reserved and considered son of a Polish immigrant, Christian Sérafin holds a stunning suite of fabulous vineyards which produce intense and structured Côte de Nuits reds with powerful tannin and acid levels.

Christian takes a simple, straightforward approach to winemaking. The vineyards are managed biologically with no regular application of systemic herbicides or pesticides. The vinification is both simple and natural with no artificial yeasts or enzymes, done in stainless steel.

His wines are not racked until they are homogenized prior to bottling, nor are they fined or filtered.

But the wines' most noteworthy feature—and the source of their unique flavor profile—is their bold, modern style resulting from Sérafin's precise oak regime.

He uses two main oak producers—François Frère and Taransaud—of which the Bourgogne receives 50% new, the village Gevrey 70% new, and the Gevrey Vieilles Vignes, the Premiers Crus and the Grand Cru 100% new oak.

All of this adds up to unique and impressively flavorful Burgundies that transcribe their world-class terroirs exquisitely. Notably, these wines age exceptionally well, and Sérafin's 2014s and 2015s will develop in the cellar for another decade or more.

Despite their capacity for aging, they are drinking well now, and you can taste for yourself just how well this Thursday evening, when we'll hand-pick 4 wines for a special surprise tasting at our tasting counter.
