Burgundies are notoriously unpredictable. Finicky and complex, it can be a chore to sort through the region's myriad quirky appellations, and even harder to determine which producers are worth your time.
So we've done it for you, and this weekend, we'll have something for everyone.
Join us on Saturday from noon to 4pm, when we'll be pouring 6 exceptional red Burgundies at a variety of price points from the Peter's carefully curated portfolio of producers!
Peter uses a few rules that have allowed him to assemble one of the finest Burgundy portfolios in the country, full of little-known producers who've developed into superstars, like Jacky Truchot, Thierry Brouhin and Cecile Tremblay.
First, he focuses on old vine, low-yield, low-intervention winemaking, and prefers clean, pure-fruited wines that are the ultimate expressions of their terroir.
Second, he doesn't just choose his winemakers by the quality of their grand crus, but for their ability to make wines with personality and finesse at all price points.
But the deciding factor is less scientific. As Peter puts it, when choosing a new producer, "either the light goes on, or it doesn't."
The light went on with each of the 6 producers we'll feature on Saturday, and we'll pour some of the best reds they have to offer, representing a variety of terroirs and price points—from a $20 Bourgogne from Vosne Romanée's Domaine Confuron-Gindre to an expressive Gevrey-Chambertin from acclaimed producer Cristian Serafin.
