White wine. Wachau, Austria. Sustainable. 100% Weissburgunder. "Picked on October 27, the 2016 Ried Steinporz Weissburgunder Smaragd has a clear, fresh, fine and mineral bouquet with bright fruit aromas of pears and apples intertwined with stony-mineral aromas. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, intense, highly elegant, stunningly pure, finessed and salty Pinot Blanc from Spitz that comes along as an excellent gastronomic wine with a very long and stimulating finish. Due to its freshness, transparency and dry, persistent mineral structure, this Weissburgunder is a remarkable emancipation from the Austrian taste that favors high ripeness, richness, great charm and a rather smooth, generous style of wine. Whereas Grüner Veltliner seems to be captured in this corridor, the unpopular Pinot Blanc takes the chance it doesn't get to reflect another style of the Wachau that is more based on terroir, finesse, elegance and gastronomic freshness. However, Hirtzberger's Steinporz is one of the finest wines in the 2016 range of this eponymous family domaine." — 93 Points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate #232 (August 2017)
