Red wine. Vienna, Austria. Sustainable. 90% Blaufrankisch, St. Laurent, and Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Zweigelt and Merlot. This blend is a little different from many Austrian red blends because if has both Cabernet Sauvignon and merlot in it as well as traditional Austrian red grapes. Aged for 18 months in new barrique, the wine is dense and structured with initial flavors of black fruit. The grippy tannins from the cabernet show initially but soften with some air. Despite the structure the wine is deceptively graceful, the initial flavors trail off into spice and red fruit, with plums, and red cherries being the primary fruit flavors. This would be a great wine to pair with a beef roast or stew and could stand up to some of the more pungent flavors found in eastern European cuisine.
