Collection: Domaine Gauby

Domaine Gauby's trailblazing commitment to a vigorous biodynamic viticultural regimen has culminated in a unique style of winemaking, demonstrating a near-perfect balance between power and restraint, and that unfailingly expresses the purity of provenance.

Gerard Gauby and his son, Lionel, emphasize manual, rather than mechanized labor. (Wild plants and trees are allowed to grow in and around the vineyards, while weeds under the vines are plowed using a team of mules.)

As a result of his commitment to these and other practices, Gerard is widely regarded as the king of biodynamic winemaking in southern France, and The Wine Advocate's Jeb Dunnuck called Domaine Gauby "one of the top estates in France."

Gerard's philosophy is rooted in an understanding of wine as a picture of a specific place and vintage. This unflinching individuality has given the wines of Domaine Gauby the pure expression of their terroir.

And with his talented son Lionel at his side, the wines have achieved an even higher level of quality.

  • Domaine Gauby Cotes du Roussillon Muntada 2011
    $90.00
Red wine. Roussillon, France. Biodynamic. "Gauby’s 2011 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Muntada, which comes from ancient, pre-phylloxera Grenache (45%), Carignan (35% and vines over 120 years in age) and Syrah (20%) vines, offers a deep, complex and almost distilled essence of wild herbs, blackcurrants, tar, licorice, sage brush and leather on the nose. There’s no makeup here, and what you get is the raw essence of the Roussillon. Spending 30 months in a combination of large and small barrels, it is full-bodied and rich, yet very focused and tight, with a firm, structured core. It will need 2-3 years of bottle age to round into form, yet will have upwards of 20 years, if not more, of total longevity." — 95+ Points, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate #212 (April 2014)

  • Domaine Gauby Cotes du Roussillon Villages 'La Roque' 2012
    $114.00
Red wine. Roussillon, France. Biodynamic. "The la Roque cuvée from the Gauby family is produced entirely from eighty year-old grenache vines, with the wine hailing from the same vineyards from which the Muntada bottling is selected. The 2012 la Roque comes in at an even thirteen percent octane and is nicely pale in color (as grenache ought to be), offering up a bright and complex bouquet of raspberries, cherries, a touch of fruitcake, beautiful spice tones (more cloves and cinnamon, rather than garrigue), Provençal soil tones, spiced meats and a gentle topnote of lavender. On the palate the wine is pure, full and impressively transparent, with a good core, a fine impression of stony minerality, ripe, moderately chewy tannins and a long, tangy and still quite primary finish. This is still a young and slightly angular wine that needs more bottle age, but it has lovely sweet red fruit at the core and impressive soil signature and will be excellent when its blossoms." — 92+ Points, John Gilman, View from the Cellar #69 (May/June 2017)

It’s going to keep for a decade." — 92 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (May 2019)
