  • Andria Gvino Saperavi Khashmi 2017

Red wine. Georgia. Biodynamic. 100% Saperavi. This Saperavi, the best known of Georgia’s red grapes, is from 45 year old ungrafted vines, hand harvested and destemmed, the fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts. The wine is bottled un-fined and unfiltered and at no point in the wine making are sulfites added. This is a rich, full-bodied red with structure and grippy tannins, with air the wine shows dark red and black fruit (plums, cherries, boysenberries), spice, and a dense structured earthiness. Give this wine some air and then pair it with rich meat dishes—braises with tomatoes in particular.

  • Togonidze's Wine Saperavi Red 2017

Red wine. Georgia. Organic. 100% Tsolikauri. There are more than 500 indigenous grape varieties in Georgia and Saperavi is probably the best-known red variety. This is a big, rich wine with a dense tannic structure that sill manages to be elegant. Dark fruit flavors (plum, black cherry, boysenberry) and baking spice dominate the wine. The wine sees no wood; fermentation and aging occur in the traditional Qveri. This is a wine that needs to be decanted and allowed to breath. Pair it with hearty meat dishes, particularly stews and braises.
