  • Domaine des Aubuisieres Vouvray Cuvee de Silex 2019
    $20.00
White wine. Vouvray, Loire, France. Organic. 100% Chenin Blanc. "The 2018 Vouvray “Cuvée de Silex” from Bernard Fouquet is a Sec bottling, though this information is not on the front or back labels. It is also sealed under a screwcap, which I wish would be replaced by a natural cork by Monsieur Fouquet, but that said, I have yet to see any real reduction issues with this bottling when it is young. The 2018 version is a fine example of the vintage, offering up a deep and youthful nose of quince, a touch of pineapple, flinty soil tones, lanolin and white flowers. On the palate the wine is bright, ripe and full-bodied, with lovely focus and balance, an excellent core of fruit and soil signature, good, solid acids (2018 is not a particularly high acid vintage) and impressive length and grip on the nascently complex finish. This is first class Vouvray, crafted from fifty to sixty year-old Chenin vines, and which, like all top examples, will probably drink pretty well for a year or two and then close down until its tenth birthday, when the real fireworks will begin. 2020-2050+." — 92 Points, John Gilman, View From The Cellar #87 (May/June 2020)

  • Domaine des Aubuisieres Bernard Fouquet Vouvray Les Girardieres 2015
    $17.00
White wine. Vouvray, Loire, France. Organic. 100% Chenin Blanc. "The 2015 Vouvray “les Girardières” from Bernard Fouquet is the estate’s Demi-Sec, though this no longer appears on the label. I found it interesting that the le Petit Clos Sec this year is sealed under natural cork, but the les Girardières is under screwcap. The wine is not yet showing any off aromatics from reduction, but is far less expressive on the nose than the le Petit Clos, tentatively offering up scents of apple, quince, lanolin and chalky soil tones. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, crisp and nicely plumped up with a glaze of residual sugar, with a fine core, lovely soil signature and very good grip on the long and classy finish. This has the depth and inherent balance to last very long in bottle, but under this closure, I really have no idea how long it is going to survive. But, it is really delicious out of the blocks and not hard to drink in its stylish adolescence. Decant it now, to jump start the bouquet blossoming." — 91+ Points, John Gilman, View From The Cellar #65 (September/October 2016)

  • Domaine de la Borde Chardonnay Cote de Caillot 2018
    $36.00

White wine. Arbois Pupillin, Jura, France. Biodynamic. 100% Chardonnay. The quality of this Chardonnay is on par with white Burgundies well beyond this price point. The cuvée has a Puligny-like or even Chablis-like lemony brightness. After an hour of air, it develops a palpably grainy marine and mineral texture much like a Chablis, but with a fuller, fleshier fruit presence that's more like a Cote d'Or. A total package that's impossible to put down. Excellent with fish and shellfish, especially lobster.

  • Domaine de la Borde Chardonnay Cote de Caillot 2016
    $35.00
White wine. Arbois Pupillin, Jura, France. Biodynamic. 100% Chardonnay. "The one Chardonnay from limestone soils, from a south-facing vineyard is the 2016 Arbois Pupillin Côte de Caillot, which felt quite Burgundian, with a texture that reminded me of the limestone soils of Burgundy. This is not a common soil (Bajocian limestone) in Jura, as it's usually deeper down; this is from the highest vineyard in Pupillin at close to 500 meters altitude. The altitude here compensates the warmer exposure, and the wine comes through as very fresh and mineral, in a style that reminded me of producers like Roulot. 1,500 bottles were filled in September 2017. This is really very good. I had the chance to taste the 2004, and it was mind boggling, perfect for drinking now. If the 2016 ages like that, I might be underestimating this." — 93 Points, Luis Gutierrez, The Wine Advocate #234 (Dec. 2017)
